Japanese Snack Haul: Part 1

Hey guys! It’s Friday and I am so so SO happy to be finally talking about a recent cool find.

I was looking up where to buy various Japanese drinks online and I managed to find a decent site and got a variety of things to try! Because of the many different things, I’m splitting these posts up for convenience.

I had a recent talk with my brother about an Asian marketplace that’s about 2 hours away from where we live and it sounded like so much fun. However, because of the travel part, I wasn’t sure when I was going to be able to go this summer (yet).

So I took matters into my own hands and thought, “I’m going to see if I can try some cool Asian snacks online!” That’s when I found Asian Food Grocer.

Here’s my overall review on the site itself: it’s great because your order only has to be $30 to get the flat rate shipping vs. other sites that make you spend a fortune. However, there’s a big downside and that’s the fact that they don’t have anything in stock! Like ever! I managed to get lucky and find a variety of snacks/drinks to buy a couple weeks ago but I looked back on their site recently to see if I can buy more and everything is out of stock. It doesn’t seem like they stock up very often and I think that’s a huge downfall.

Now onto the first part of my haul, the yogurt drinks! If you know anything of Japanese drinks, then you probably have heard of Calpico. It’s everywhere!

Yogurt drinks are apparently pretty popular in parts of Asia and I can see why! Before though, I had only really tried Yakult so this was a nice change of pace. Between the Calpico drinks and the Yogu Time, Calpico came out on top for me. The Yogu ones were WAY too sweet in my opinion.

If I had to pick a favorite out of the Yogu ones, it would definitely be the lychee flavor, it was nice and fruity. I still had a hard time finishing it though, the formula of the Yogu drinks is just too sweet.

While I enjoyed the strawberry version of Calpico, I still found the original to be the absolute best! The strawberry one just wasn’t the same. It’s so hard to describe the original flavor of Calpico but oh my goodness guys, it’s SO GOOD! If you ever get a chance to try it anywhere, do it!

To put it as simply as possible, I would describe Calpico as a mixture between Sprite and yogurt. When you drink it, it goes down like a really smooth fruit juice. It’s got that yogurt tang but with a nice citrus twist. It’s so refreshing!

Be sure to keep a lookout for the other parts as I go into more drinks and snacks! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

With love,
